Hi Everybody,

When sorting out my Harrison M300 I needed to replace the power indicator light just above the E-stop. Needed to drill the hole larger for the new light. What a surprise! Would have sworn the casing was cast aluminium but it turned out to be some composite material. I thought it was fibreglass but a friend believed it was asbestos cement. Does anybody know what the casings are made of?

I think mine is some flavour of glass fibre reinforced material. I had to drill out a hole in mine to accomodate a new stop switch. I used an hss drill bit and it had nice smooth rounded cutting faces after drilling a mm or so.

Hi Rob and Larry,

Used a Starrrat hole saw to drill my casing. Worked fine but the swarf it produced was very flaky and puzzling. The casing looks like metal, sounds like metal, and feels like metal but it's not. One thing for certain to come out of all this is don't bother to put an earth connection to it!
