Drain Cocks

Hi all,

Going to convert my Hunslet from a single drain cock on the Steam chest to 2 on each cylinder.

Has anyone done this before and can give me pointers to an operating mechanism drawings etc?

Why not go for steam operated cocks… then you don't have the flaffle of making linkage, just routing a steam pipe and an extra fitting in the cab.

There is a design of cylinder drain cock that works automatically, no linkage, no steam pipe to operate them it was featured in ME over the last couple of years. It works on the principle of turbulent flow (water mixed with steam) and linear flow steam only. We have a couple of loco's in our club fitted with them and they work really well.

I do not think they are available commercially you would have to make them yourself I believe they were described in ME but I do not have the issue details. Unfortunately we are unable to meet at our club for the next few weeks due to our park being under extensive restoration so I can not get any further information quickly. I am sure someone in the group must be able to help – moderator?
