This is a new one on me, my cheapo digital callipers now show hours min and seconds instead of inches or millimetres.

Don’t if this will work in your case (different fault) but might be worth a try:-

My cheapo ones stopped changing readings whatever I tried, eventually out of desperation I left the battery out for a couple of days and everything worked fine when the battery was put back in.

+1 on what V8Eng says. If you can't wait a day or two, you can try shorting out the battery contacts (with the battery removed, of course) to discharge any residual electricity. Worked for me on a couple of cheapo calipers.

Try closing the jaws and winding it back to zero with that big winding button on the top….

When you stand on the corner of Space and Time, it's always April 1.

Maybe measuring the speed of light tween the caliper tips? Measure up your foot – should read around 1ft or so, or maybe 1nanosecond…

Almost the correct answer – our CMM at work was "only" £42,000 + Vat & came complete with the complimentary caliper shaped wall clock. Fortunately the CMM has lasted longer than the clock !

put a strap on it and you have the trendiest watch going, plus you will be able to tell the time to the nearest millimeter.

Are you sure it’s hours, minutes and seconds? It could still be showing size, just in degrees, minutes and seconds. Have to be pretty big mind you
