Comparing MOSFETs

hi guys,

wondering if some can help me, i am trying to source a MOSFET for a control board.

i found the mosfet on Aliexpress but some of the numbers are slightly different, after searching the net for code explanation. it appears the main code and voltage and amps are the same but the smaller text I can’t make out what they mean and can’t find the explanation anywhere

The Mosfet i have is TMA20N50 followed by text 1K47FS the later code what does it mean.

on the net i can find these two but one of them has the text 1F23FS but the same base code of TMA20N50. see pictures

So what do the little codes mean? If I only need to worry about the main TMA20N50 or simply 20N50 I can get the parts locally. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

That is a clone of the old Motorola 20N50 Mosfet.

IIRC the 20 refers to the drain current 20A and the 50 is the reference for a 500V device.

The package style is the TO-247 which is an industry standard. Take a look at the IR website for equivalents, plenty of modern devices available.

Probably manufacturing date or batch codes.

Hi Savinay,

I haven't seen that type of suffix, but as Andrew said they are most likely manufacturers site and or year/week codes and I would agree with that assumption. I also don't recognise the manufacturers logo – probably Far Eastern ? There are so many small places churning these products out and I prefer to use manufacturers I know and trust, like International Rectifier, which incidentally is now owned by Texas Instruments!

The symbol suggest the manufacturer is Alesis Semiconductors.

Some form of manufacturer's codes. Some of them can be easily translated to a week and year, other are more obscure. I have a TTL chip somewhere with two four-number codes both of which start 74… H&H has some examples of chips with ambiguous markings.

It would be simpler if every code that wasn't a part number was underlined.

See also the TURUTA SMD-codes databook. Very useful when you need it. There are generally copies available on the web, although they used to keep a fairly tight handle on it.
