I've got a small co-ordinate table to which I'd like to fit some simple DROs. The axis travels are X:150mm and Y:75mm. The scales at **HERE** look like they would do the job, except that 150mm for the Y axis is too long. They appear to be using the same technology as used in digital callipers – which I'm told can be cut to length. Does anybody know if these scales can be successfully cut to length?

I cut down a 12" scale to make a quill readout for my lathe tailstock, works very well….

The cheaper scales usually have an aluminium bar, rather than the vernier calipers which may have hardened steel…

I have one very similar to the one in the link I got from arc euro. I cut it down and all is fine.

Just make sure that there is no bit of swarf left that shorts out the capacitative strips in the rail, tidying up the cut end with emery should be enough.
