Well some great news just had my Black 5 in full steam for first time.

I tried Sunday but had to make a new Ash pan today it steamed up great.

On blocks it ran so smooth i have had so many problems getting here to finally see it at full pressure was so exiting.

Looking forward to first steam test on Sunday and might even get to take it round the track.

      Fingers crossed for Sunday now

      Ron

Like many others I've been following your trials and tribulations with considerable interest. When things got difficult you hung on in there and made a success of it. I've been inspired by your persistence.

                        Thanks,

I would like to add my congratulations to Ron, as I have followed Ron's projects with close interest over the last few years.

Ron, you now have to learn how to fire and drive these things, which is no mean feat in itself, but I am sure your club members will be up to the task of showing you how!

                              Cheers,

Hi Nick no i would get bored i am going to finish building my Super Simplex i have already done frames buffer beams buffers turned the wheels and done the axles.

I have to centre the wheels then start on the boiler i have done the smoke box tubes ready to go into boiler i have the tube just got to cut and shape it.

I still need to make loads so think my spare time over next couple years will be all taken up.

Plus the Mrs want's a holiday buying the boiler last year and all the rest of the stuff left us a little short.

I have two clubs to Run at Rugley and i have joined Nottingham they give a lot of rides to Children their hopefully will get some more young budding model engineers if they get interested

Hi Folks well had steam up but still having a few problems.

I changed the blower pipe to outside and through the smoke box as i was getting a lot of water coming through the blower holes when valve opened.

I have since tried again get steam up with wheels of the ground open regulator loads of water coming through the Chimney.

Its very hard to raise pressure on the electric blower but once i have 20 PSI it pulls really well.

When i open the drain valves on the pistons a lot of water comes out it seems to hydraulic but can't understand why.

is it possible to ever get it right can't think what to check now wish i had started this 40 years ago.

Hi again well I have used Epsom salts and took to working pressure.

I then drained still have the problem I am going to Run on air this afternoon after I will treat again with Epsom salts after that I don't know where to look.

When at 90 PSI I open the regulator so much water comes through the chimney looses steam as must be putting out the fire.

Their is a 3/8 air gap in the top of dome for regulator pick up.

The steam pick up is an inch above the back of the boiler.

If I open smoke box door to check before opening regulator it has dry ash in the front.

Just don't know what to look at so going to run on air and check then give it more Epsom salts in case it's hydrolicing.

Other than that no idea what to look at
