      G’day all !

Long time no visit (domestic disruption.)

Offshoot from above is the need to fit a non- type invalid chair hoist to a Citroen Berlingo. I need to secure an upright support strut to the rear side panel, ideally immediately below the parcel shelf support fttings. The sidewall material appears to be thick, strong plastic over a steel ‘carcase’ I can’t see how to remove the panel and have no details for possible vulnerable cabling etc. behind.

Do any members have experience or advice on drilling or fixing in this area, please ?

      TIA

The best advice would be to approach a Citroen dealer and ask them to show you how to remove the offending plastic panel.

Or even a a local body shop, they might be able to help.

Be aware, if you are not already, that your insurer might not be very happy about your “modification”, however high the quality of your work.

If you don’t tell the spivs and they find out, even if the modification has nothing to do with that, they will likely void your cover immediately and make it very hard and costly to renew it.

Car insurers are money-traders who appear not to know which end of a screwdriver is which for stirring paint, but know all about screwing most money out of us at least risk to them.

My car is a Renault Kangoo modified by a leading conversion company to take a wheelchair, and even though the work is professional, properly-designed, “type-approved” and the like, some insurers refuse it merely for it being not as off the Renault assembly-line. (Wherever that is these days…)

Howard and Nigel- thank you for the quick responses.

Point well made (and taken) re. our ‘caring’ insurers !

On past experience, the local Citroen agents (even more so, the VW similar) have little to recommend them for helpful advice. Our ‘one man and his dad’ garage may well be a better bet.

Since the device is for stationary use only, and I am definitely’common’. I shall I shall resort to ‘my sense’ !
