      (Legal) starting pistols are made so they cannot fire a projectile or be converted to do so.

      They have to vent at 90 degrees to the axis of the barrel and the barrel must be solid for most of it's length, most have hardened steel plugs cast in.

        Yes, and the most likely problem would be the 'good reason' requirement for the grant of a Firearm Certificate. For non-game/vermin shooting, this effectively requires membership of a Home Office Approved club, and I've never heard of any such doing model cannon shooting as a discipline.

        If you visit Cowes during the summer you stand a chance of seeing several brass cannon being fired on an hourly basis -the Royal Yahct Squadron use them for the Cowes Week races. No shot of course, just a bit of cardboard. Very entertaining, and the cannons make a nice waterfront display.
