I spotted this lovely bit of vintage machinery in a museum last week. I'll not say which museum as it might give the game away. What specific job was it made to do?

Answers on a postcard please to The Tea Room.

Hi Rik, maybe it has a cousin called Singer.

          Regards Nick.

It looks as though it is missing a reel for, or of, thread on that spindle at the rear…smiley

It has the looks of a walking foot patcher; likely a lot older than my Singer 29K-4
Could it be a Claes Patent Elastique?

I think they were imported to the USA and re-branded under some other name.

Its in Southwold (Suffolk) museum and is identified as a sail makers sewing machine.

Rik (another creaky old antique) sad
