I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me. I recently purchased a part built Bonds / greenly 3.5" gauge royal scot. However I am missing the blueprints. Does anyone know where I might be able find these prints? Or possibly get a copy of someones prints?

Was this build ever featured in the Model engineer Mag?

Also does anyone have any castings they might be willing to sell for this loco?

Thank you in advanced for your help.

      – Brandon

Try Maxitrak, they own the Greenly archive.

            hi brandon,

i have a vague recollection that the Greenly 3.5"g Royal Scot was a design he did for Bonds O' Euston Road. it isnt listed in the Greenly archive on the Maxitrack site referred to by Jason.

it was never described in ME.

it is a rather old design and the boiler would require 'updating'. it also only has 2 cylinders.

            cheers,

            julian

Thank you Jason and Julian for the quick replies, unfortunately I have already tried the Maxitrack website with no luck.

A plus side about this loco was it started in the late 80's, so the boiler was already built to the modern standard.

I was just wondering if anyone else may have input on the above question? Any help would be a big help.

Brandon: There is also a similar thread entitled 3 1/2 G Royal Scot started by Paul Markey to which I posted a reply some time ago but this bought no response. I still have some information. For details refer to that thread.

                      Hi Brandon

Have you got sorted yet. I have a Greenly 3 1/2" Gauge Royal Scot loco and a hard copy set of drgs + a set of drgs on disc. Let me know if you require copies.

I talked to Greenly archive in the first instance they had never heard of the Royal Scot model, said it was a Doris, but the wheels are different dia.

                      Regards Roger

                        Dear Roger,

is it possible to get a copy of the drawing for 3.5" gauge Royal Scot? Recently i became a happy owner of this beautiful loco. However i have no papers, no boiler cert, nothing and the loco really needs refreshing. In addition to this i'm new in the subject – this is my first 3.5 gauge live steam locomotive (i bought three different models at the same time). Long way ahead of me to bring them back to life. Actually i'll start a new thread for each loco to share the information and keep asking for advises – for sure i'll need a lot advises from experienced Live Steam engineers!

                        Thank you

I found four drawings for Greenly's Royal Scot in my late father's effects which I donated free to the Greenly archive, held by Maxitrak, in August 2015 on condition that they would be made available at normal commercial rates.
                              They were:
BRS1 General Arrangement and some details of Loco.
                              BRS7 General Arrangement of Tender.
BRS8 Tender: frames, wheels, axle boxes, springs. Cab reversing handle. Axle driven boiler feed pump. Smoke deflectors.
Sheet (no number but appears to be BRS6) – Smokebox details, Roscoe lubricator & superheater.
The three BRS (Bonds Royal Scot?) drawings were good quality and obviously prints from a traced drawing. The fourth is a print probably from an original pencil drawing and less clear but readable.

I found no further sheets and there is no evidence that my father ever started to make this loco. I do not know if Maxitrak have been able to obtain the missing sheets BRS2 to BRS5.
One problem you might have in resurrecting this model is the boiler which may not meet the current pressure vessel regulations.

This is the one i have:

The other locos from the same batch are 3 1/2" gauge 3/4 scale Atlantic (Maisie) by L.B.S.C:

                                img_20191209_191600_hdr.jpg

and 3 1/2" gauge 3/4 scale Bassett-Lowke 0-6-0 tank locomotive (the tender in the photos is not for Bassett-Lowke):

                                img_20191209_191535.jpg

And it seems Bassett-Lowke 0-6-0 tank loco is very rare – i can find no information on it. No single photo of the same model. Do you know someone who have this model?

I'm aware of the boiler concerns. I'm going to take the boilers out of the locos, clean and check. Unfortunately there is no live steam models associations in my country and no certified assessors. I have to do it myself. These locos are for occasional use on the stand.

Thank you Nicholas Farr for the scans. I have some sort of reference now. When i start to work on this model i will check if the maker followed this plans. Or my loco is made using another plans?

Mr David Reeves 1: are you ok to share the drawings you found?

As mentioned previously I only had copies of 4 out of the 8 drawing sheets. These I sent to Maxitrak for the Henry Greenly archive. I did not retain any copies. I've just checked Maxitrak website http://maxitrak.com/maxitrak-greenly-archive#5 and was disappointed to find that Royal Scot was not listed under their collection of Henry Greenly 3½" gauge drawings. Maybe this is because they are not able to provide the full set of drawings.

If you get no response from Roger Paulson I suggest.you contact Maxitrak – phone: +44 (0)1580 893030 or email: info@maxitrak.com

From the research I did for my royal scot, the only place I found the full set of 3.5" drawings is from GLR Kennions. Their price is £36.00, also they have some castings available for this loco as well. Please find the link below:

Henry Greenly published a book "Model Steam Locomotives" which might be of interest to you. Used copies are advertised on the internet.
