I've just looked in an old "Newnes Engineer's Reference Book"

          4 BA 1/16" 3/32"

          3 BA 5/64" 1/8"

          2BA 3/32" 5/32"

          1BA 3/32" 5/32" …. That's interesting!

          0BA 1/8" 3/16"

          Smaller size is for set-screws

          Larger size is for cap-screws

Hi, there is a chart in the "Model Engineers Handbook" (thrid edition) by Tubal Cane that gives the same as Michael, but with the addition of 5BA being the same as 4BA and also,

            8BA 0.035" 1/16"

            6BA 0.05" 5/64"

            Regards Nick.

If I can be permitted to give a plug for my book "Metalworkers Data Book" in the Workshop Practice Series 42, this gives the data for Cap screws, also countersunk screws, I did not though include Grub/Set screws as I probably thought there was not much to say about them. However, the sizes appear to be the same as for countersunk screws, though of course that is of no use to those who do not know this fact.

Incidentally, I have just this morning added in the "for sale" section of the site some small tools (brand new) and some copies of the "Metalworkers data book" and other books from the series.

why not just buy a set of Imperial hex keys? they will then fit all the old stuff.

Usual disclaimer, but Machine Mart do a lovely set of tiny Allen keys (metric & Imperial) which should suit "our" sizes very well.

Not very expensive, either. Just bought a set; one of the chaps in the club had one and I couldn't resist!
