          David,
Do you need details of how to machine all known types of wheel (This would require a very long reply.) or just one specific type and size of wheel ?

          Les.

              Hi David,

It's a bit long winded, but if you have the patience download Dias Costa's index application see this thread: **LINK**

Once you have that search for steam engine construction series mentioning wheels later than 2001 in the Model Engineer Index.

Assuming you have aan ME subscription, you can then download the articles in question from the online archive. The descriptions there are better than Icold do, having only machined cast flywheels and loco wheels from solid steel blanks, which are much different processes.

                Hi David,

August EIM has Doug Hewson doing a photo shoot about machining the wheels for his Y4. They are drivers, but it's the same process, just ignore the crank pin part.

One thing I did before machining mine was to paint the spokes and rims inside and out with black enamel paint, that is after fettling the spokes and rims to size.

Machining does not affect the paint job.
