I note from the home page the sad news of Peter Spenlove-Spenlove's death. I have a very happy memory of him from the days long before websites had been invented. A letter from me had been printed in Model Engineer and, perhaps because I had not expressed myself well, Peter had become convinced that I was about to do something dangerous which would lead to a burst grinding wheel. He didn't know me, but he scoured phone directories until he found me, then called me to voice his fears. What a kindly act from a stranger!

Sad to see Peter has left us. I enjoyed his writing (Pete's Page), and always had a wry smile at his hand-retouched photos. He must have sent the design team spare!

As the Executor of Peter's estate, If anyone is interested, Peter's workshop and tools are being auctioned on Saturday 28 June in a dedicated auction by churchgateauctions.co.uk who are in Leicester. There is an interesting array of lathes, milling machines, etc. etc.. Details are on Churchgate’s website.
