Hi everyone. Just restoring my Myford super seven it dates from 1961.

Replacing the bronze front headstock bearing. I have found the original bearing has a much smaller hole for the oil wick .so the new oil wick and new oil wick spring are much too big for the hole. Anyone else come across this as it looks like Myford have changed the size at some stage but still use the original part numbers??

I somehow doubt it, but its possibly worth asking Myford if they know the answer.

Its not very good engineering practice to use the same part number for a changed part if it is not "Fit Form & Function" though.

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

          Phil

The usual engineering convention, for numbering parts with later modifications, is to use the same basic part number but with either a prefix or suffix to denote the modified/improved design.

Can the hole be enlarged to fit?

I suggest that approaching Myford (Mytholmroyd) just now should be done with sensitivity – according to the news this morning, that community has suffered yet another serious flood problem.

                  Best regards,

                  Swarf, Mostly!

                    Have a look at this.

Front bearing differences over the years

                    Hope this helps

                    Steve.
