Hi, has anybody been to the MEX today that can provide some feedback. Undecided whether to drive over to the exhibition tomorrow.

      Alan.

          Hi,

I was there and I thought it a better venue than last year. Parking was a bit better than last year too. The club exhibits are very good with an emphasis on locomotives. There was also a reasonable spread of Trade stands which I took advantage of to buy some materials and equipment.

I think it is worth going to but I might be a bit biased, having a model on display.

Its a medium sized show with a good cross section of exhibits and traders, I too as a club stand exhibitor am slightly biased.

One tip for parking is to make your way around to the "Spindles" shopping centre car park and walk the short distance through the shopping centre to the venue, we arrived at 10am this morning and the venue car park was full by then.

t engine.jpgI also attended today, very impressed. I was fortunate to meet Diane our esteemed editor for

a chat. The photo shows a traction engine on display on the Rochdale ME stand.

Phil P thanks for the parking tip. I am inclined to drive over tomorrow and will park at the location you suggested.

                Thanks, Alan.

Spent the morning at the show yesterday, looked well supported by local clubs and visitors. The show felt twice as big as last year with a good mix of exhibitors and trade, hopefully it will continue to double in size each year and become a main event on the calendar.

I went yesterday, much better venue than last year, and I had no problem parking right outside. Excellent club stands, and a good selection of traders, not those selling junk

The model engineer show supported by MEW and ME was at Brooklands Museum last year and I think it may be there again this year, Meridienne run the London model engineering show at Alexandra Palace and the Midland show at their exhibition centre near Leamington Spa these are associated with Engineering in Miniature magazine. The Doncaster show has continued what was the Harrogate show run independently by the Rex family. The Bristol show is at Thornbury just outside Bristol. A show has been put on at Spalding for the last couple of years and a Show In Manchester has just been on and moved venue from last year. Guildford have put on a show for a number of years but I am not sure of this year. I regularly go to the first four and there is usually a good display of models and traders at all. The shows have all suffered a decline in the number of traders in attendance in recent years and I think this is a reflection of how we choose to purchase these days, most traders have a presence on the Internet and much information can be gained from their websites, YouTube can give much information about machines being used under power and is probably more informative than seeing a machine at a show. There are also people's independent reviews on YouTube. The shows are a great place to see models and discuss details with the builders. They are always a good day out in my opinion and a good chance to talk with like minded people and see their work.

I went saturday afternoon and the parking was terrible. We drove round the carpark for ages, along with many others but no spaces came, we ended up having to park a fifteen minute walk away.
