Hi there, I am currently restoring a 1930 Colchester Master and have stripped it down to the last nut and bolt. The engineering carnage is not as bad as I thought however I will have to make a number of gear wheels. 5 Change wheels, forward and reverse tumbler gears and main spindle drive wheels. Most importantly longitudinal and cross feed drive wheels. What steel should I use as some of the wheels transferring power have to have significant strength.imag1369.jpg

James, EN24 for gears would be good.

                Hi James,

It may be a challenge, but it looks essentially complete and should be a rewarding journey.

You won't need exceptionally strong steel, the original change gears were probably cast iron.
