Not certain, but: Based on 'typical' Myford engineering, the handle probably acts as a lock-nut … Hold the hexagon with an open-ended spanner, and 'bump' the handle with the butt of your [other] hand.

[don't blame me if I'm wrong]

          .

          Edit: corrected a typo.

            You are right!

            Paul – proceed as advised.

It should run in a sintered bearing shell in that casting so remember to oil it on replacing. A bit difficult to set up for minimum backlash as the handle and nut seem to pull away a bit. Persevere until you get minimum backlash

thanks everyone will have a go when I get back from the car boot sale. its not going back together I bought it to sell on as spares, paid over the top for it so its a bit of a gamble.

                  Hi Paul,

Does the ML10 have a lead screw clutch fitted, or any other extras?

                  Les

they will not be cheap at the moment as i paid to much for the lathe over £500.00 once i have got my money back i drop the prices on what is left to give me a bit of profit and to clear some room. going to put in on for £75.00 plus postage in anyone buys from the forum it will be 10% cheaper

That is for holding the bush

only needs removing to replace the bush
