          Welcome Andrew,

I can't comment on that table -there are many variants around, but someone here will have one.

If their tables are as good as their carpets…..

Looks the same as Warco's RT, probably SOBA and Warco is slightly cheaper. Reasonable bit of kit.

Hi Andrew, I bought a similar one from Chronos (might even be identical) not in the same class as a 'proper' dividing head of course but found it really useful. Bought a liitle chuck (not a chicken) for it as well which makes it quite versaltile.

Meant versatile of course, Why do you always spot a mistake after it has been posted.

I think the Axminster ones are similar to Vertex not Soba as the Vertex have the shaply metal handle as opposed to the tapered plastic one on the Soba.

I have the Soba with additional indexing wheels and tailstock which is fine so if they are the Vertex that should be even better.

I bought one of these for work and it’s a copy of the Vertex one. I bought it believing it to simply be the same bit of kit with a different badge on it (I have a genuine Vertex one) but it’s not as good quality. It’s usable but I’d recommend getting the Vertex.

Problem with rotary tables, no matter where they come from originally, works that is, not reseller, is that they are being dumbed down in an effort to remain competitive.

As far as I can assertain none of the CURRENT crop have bearings on the worm shaft and some like the 8" Vetex only has one thrust bearing so you are suppost to go one way only.

Most are steel into cast iron, no bushes and some are even steel into steel. They have also moved off the envoloping worm wheel and instead have a worm engaging with a helical gear so the worm shaft stays parallel.

SOBA started all this in India and Vertex have had to copy them to remain competitive. You can buy a high end Vertex table but it's out the price range of the home shop guy and because of this not carried by any of our usual suppliers.

Hi. Thanks for the advice. I was going to get an Axminster because it had 4 slots in the table but i might just go for the Vertex because it will be easier to fit a three jaw chuck on to. I am thinking of going to Manchester for the show so I will have a look then. thanks again for the advice Andrew

                            Andrew,

I doubt if you will find one; but it's worth keeping an eye open for the Myford version of the Vertex … it has four slots.

My 6" Vertex has 4 slots, bought in Christchurch NZ about 20 years ago, with indexing plates, it doesn't get a lot of use, but its great when it's needed. Can't remember how much it cost, must have been$NZ300 or $NZ400, at the time it was expensive for me. Ian S C
