Hi iam new here and looking to connect with somrone who knows about the Zeatz dividing head.

It seems that i cannot control the center fron the index plate on the side without using the replacable geared shaft to mesh with index plate geared shaft.

If this is the case i cannot control the dividing head center anywhere outside of horizontal. Does this make sense? It does not to me and hoping for some insight.
      Kind regards
      Matt

"control the centre" doesn't. make sense. However it sounds like you have a universal head so it is capable of anything anyone needs in the dividing and spiral milling front. Not sure what the replaceable shaft is as normally everything is fixed.

            Thank you for the response.

I think i have figured it out.
            I will report back.

The replacable shaft is used for differential indexing and can be pulled out so the head can be titlted 90 degrees to tbe vertical.

Thabks again for the response. I should have rhought it through a little more.

I would say that it is rather unusual to have a removable shaft like that. A picture would be interesting. I had a look on google images but they mostly looked like rebadged Elliotts, or perhaps the rebadge was the other way around.

Ah, found a manual. The removable part is the extension to the rear of the spindle used with gears in differential indexing. You are right differential indexing cannot easily be done more than a few degrees off level. If necessary the method would be to put it on a tilting plate.
Are you trying to make helical prime number gears on a turret mill? It might just be easier to make the necessary regular indexing plate first then tilt the head.

Yes i should have called it an extention shaft. Thanks for your replies and attention to detail. I am missing the handle for this unit and to my embarrassment when i engaged the worm i was spinning the index plate and nothing happened. I soon realized i had to turn the shaft and not the index plate. Dumb.
Anyways all is working as expected.

Iam not cutting such gears. Iam try to get the feel of it. Its msin purpose is to mske reamers on my Brown and Sharpe no.2 universal mill.
When i can figure out how to post pictures I will.
                  Best regards

                    Hi Matt,

There is a description on how to post photos on this forum here.
