      Hi!

Is there anyone that have used "Cupronickel", copper-nickel alloy, as boiler tube and boiler material. Is this a good solution or is this something that i should avoid?

      Regards

      Gunnar

I would consider Cupro Nickel to be a bit hard to roll and also hold shape accurately from manual bending as its very springy. I know its swaged to make bullet casings so maybe it is well annealed to do that. As for costing I suspect 3mm cupro to be fantastically expensive if at all available in that gauge.

As Copper is the normal metal to use why would Cupro be any better?

              Clive

There is a chap in Finland who builds all his locos from that stuff. Seems he can get it from a shipbuilding place,

Naturally this can only be done in countries where the profession of 'boiler inspector' is unknown laugh

If you read the builders website, linked from the Youtube page, there is a sub page detailing the boiler building. Link below to save everyone hunting for it….

This show and explains why Cupro isn't used for boilers.

                        HI!

That gave me the total answer, never use Cupro as boiler material.

                        Thanks everyone for the contribution.

                        Regards
