Where to source 06, 08 I.C. internal threading lay down inserts

Hi,

I am looking for 55° and 60° lay down inserts in the 06 and 08 I.C. sizes. I have found a source (carmex available on the big auction site amongst other sources) but these seem to all be full profile and I would need to get specific inserts for each TPI. Also they are in packs of 5 and I don't need that many and they are not inexpensive.

So I am wondering if there are any sources of partial profile 55° and 60° lay down inserts in 06 and 08 I.C. sizes? Also if there are any sources other than carmex for full profile inserts in these sizes?

Try Rotorgrip direct or fordeight (Rotogrip) on ebay for single inserts.

Thanks but I don't see any smaller than 11 I.C. on the rotagriponline website. I am specifically looking for 06 and 08 I.C. as 11 is too big for the intended purpose.

Had a look on Cutwel site. Korloy do what they describe as "11mm IC" partial profile in 55 and 60 degrees – but when you look at the drawing, the inscribed circle (denoted by "d" ) is actually nearer 6.35mm. Go figure.

I'm sure there is some bizarre historical(?) reason for the discrepancy. Either way, are you sure you actually want the IC 06 or 08 ones?

MSC have the Carmex in partial 60 & 55 in both 06 and 08. They sell singles too.

Don't drop the little blighters in the swarf tray!

The 06 and 08 is not a 6mm and 8mm IC its the edge length. 06 has an IC of 5/32", 08 has IC of 3/16". see page 3

JB cutting tools also do the 06 but would need to phone to confirm they are partial.

Murray — you are right. I have not correctly defined what I am looking for I think I am getting the IC imperial sizing mixed up with the metric edge length. I want the inserts that are 06mm and 08mm along the edge.

 

Jason — you have identified a source that sell singles! Thank you. They aren't half pricey though. Does anyone make inserts in these sizes apart from Carmex?

 

Never mind the inserts my workshop gremlin can hide the whole assembly; insert, insert tool holder, QCTP holder all in plane sight. And yes I'm over due a visit to the opticians.

Steve did you see my second post about JB, half the price of MSC. Also that was Canela that I linked to who also make them, may be worth enquiring with APT about those as they are stockists but don't list the smaller size but may be able to get them for you.

Yes thanks. JB will be my first call in the morning to confirm if they are partial profile which I expect they are. Second will be APT as yes you correctly point out Canela seem to be a source.

I spoke with Jenny at JB and I've placed an order for 1 each of 06 and 08 edge length 55° and 60° partial profile inserts. It turns out she has a lot of stock that is not on the website. So its worth a telephone call if you don't find what you need online Thanks to all for the help..
