Whatever i do it's usually a distraction from the tidying I need to do before real projects can progress…
Swarfing.
I call it work!
A friend of mine when asked says "I'm just giving it a good coat of looking-at".

"Latheing" as it is known by the rest of the family.
Pottering or tinkering mainly, sometimes tidying up, occasionally playing and every now and then actually 'working' which usually means fixing something that is needed for other 'essential' household or yard chores.
