      Hi All,

Need some advice here. Was going to start cleaning up a motorcycle rear disc on the face plate. When checking the alignment I found the outer face to be 0.13mm (5.1 Thou) out and the inner face to be 0.07mm (2.75 Thou) out. I have cleaned all the mating surfaces on the headstock and the face plate to rule out any dirt causing the misalignment. Should I take a small skim off the face plate to true it up? Any other advice would be welcome.

      Cheers the Noo

      John.

Yes John – a light skim on a (new?) faceplate would be quite normal to true it up. Make sure that the gibs on the cross slide are all adjusted correctly before starting the skim.

Quite usual to skim a new face plate. Mark it like the chuck so you can make sure it goes back on in the same position next time.

              .

I bought a 3rd party D1-3 faceplate of far east origin for my Boxford. It was waaaaaay off and needed from memory about 30 thou skimming.

                Hi Rik, Jason and Nick,

Thanks for the reply. I'll get it trued up with a wee skim. I've center punched the mounting flange next to the "0" mark on the headstock so I can re-align the face plate. Many thanks for your help.
