I always reckon that a bed stop for a lathe is one of the easiest and most effective ways of increasing a lathes versatility and accuracy so as my new lathe did not have one I spent a few hours knocking one up.

It can be used with an adjustable deadstop……….

or a micrometer stop……….

or a clockstop……….

A nicely finished job. Most are only fixed on one side of the bed, so wondering why you made it so robust?

Put a micro switch (or two) and connect into the motor stop circuit? My lathe has a mechanical trip for the long travel power feed.

Its because the geometry of the bed casting changes nearer to the headstock end on this lathe making a one sided stop tricky to fit. So to make the stop universally attachable on both the main part of the bed and also the bit near the chuck I found the easiest way was to span the full width of the bed. Inch square material seemed about right for the job.

I did give some thought to a microswitched trip but for the time being I'll see how I get on.

Interesting that my (I thought identical) BL12 – 24 gets away with just a one sided (shop made) stop. This sits over the Vee and grips beneath the bed. C'est brusque mais ca marche! Like all my stuff, Rough (decidely) and ready.

Something like this would suit my Craftsman lathe too. Must get around to making one,the one I,m using is about 1740 vintage !
