Having read a few of the replies and worked out that perhaps a slide might cost 150-200 quid and I can get a small mill for around 600 quid I think this may be the way to go, as you suggest.
My 'dream' was a Sieg SX3 but this comes to around 1,400 and if I go for the SX2 I can get this for around half of this – and I think I would be struggling to fit the SX3 in my workshop anyway so I will have a good look at this as an alternative.
Appreciate the advice though – I am very new at this and having spent 1200 quid on the lathe and a fair bit on the tooling I was hoping to be able to cope with this for a while, but everything I want to make needs a bit of milling. Think I will ask one of my fellow model engineers in the office to do the bit of milling I need (thanks Rob) while I consider this more
Best wishes
