V Belt Conversion

Hi, Has anybody done the Hemingway poly belt conversion on a super7 thinking of having a go, any thoughts or success would be appreciated.Regards Ken.

Not done that one but now use link belt which I find works very well and is easy to fit and change.

Hi Ken

Go for it a poly vee belt conversion is far superior to vee belts just look under the bonnet of any modern motor car.

One disadvantage is that the alignment of shafts and pulleys has to be spot on. No problem it engineering we do isn't it.

Converted my workshop drives to poly vee belts and no regrets on the Eight conversions so far.

The will drive at much slower speeds and bigger ratios.

Well, I have done a poly V conversion to my ML7, and just to make a proper job of it I put in four pulleys on each shaft instead of three. They don't squeak like the old V belt did, and give me a wider range of ratios. They also require less tension than the V belt did, which has to be a good thing with the spindle being on white metal bearings. I have the Newton Tesla drive on this lathe too.

I also converted my Unimat three to have a toothed belt drive that fits inside the original cover. I submitted that as an article but some previous editor discarded that and a few others.

Next thing I should do is replace the motor to counttershaft belt on the Myford with a poly V
