I’m looking for some inspiration as to where would be the best place to locate the petrol tank on my latest Upshur IC Engine project… see above link to my YouTube channel.

Ideally I would like the tank positioned with the filler cap inline with the front of the carburettor and slightly away from the engine (the fuel level height must be between ¼” and ½” below the carburettor inlet pipe). For me, this is problematic as I feel that I lack the necessary skills to make this happen.

It has been suggested to me that I locate the tank at the base of the engine then either make or buy some sort of non return valve which would be fitted to the carburettor inlet pipe which is ¼” tubing.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

You could run a couple of brackets off the head using the two head studs as fixings and suspend the tank under that much like the Woodpecker engine amoung others had.

Non return valves are quite easy to make with either a ball or flap and I have also bought them in the past from PM research who do scale ones that look like old screwed fittings, they also do scale pipe fittings.

If you want to make your own let me know and I'll dig out drawings for a couple of designs, if you can make that engine then you have the skill to do either the valve or mount the tank

This should do the trick, mount it vertically between a couple of bits of your fuel tube.

Could also be done in aluminium and if you don't have hex stock or want to mill the hex then those bits could be knurled
