Hello a basic question, I have used the search site on how to upload photos on the forum album but cant find a match. I have clicked on album, clicked on the two blue photo words etc but nothing happens. I have seen a forum about this some time ago but cant find it,

        Thanks Bob.

          Hello Robert.

You need to create an album first.

Bob, click on "All Topics" just under this post, then choose "Website FAQs" – first topic heading as it's a "sticky".

              Hi

I currently am unable to upload photos to any of my photo files.

              Following all the usual procedures?

Is there a site problem at the moment or is the problem definitely at my end?

                Hi Geoff,

I am not having any problems with my album, so the problem may well be at your end.

                  Hi again

                  This is what's happening

The photo uploads very slowly to 100%

                  Then waiting for modelengineer.co.uk

This page then comes up www. modelengineer.co.uk members/albums/upload-allow-images-action asp

But this page is blank except for this message…….sorry the page you requested cannot be displayed at this time please try again later.

which I have done on several occasions.

It does look like the problem is at my end unless anyone knows otherwise

                  cheers geoff

How big is the image file, if many Mb then the system can suffer. I'll log in as you in a moment and upload something which should show if the problem is your end or on the site.

No problem loading this, I assume you were trying to load into that new empty album. You will have to login again as I will have logged you out.

                        HI Jason,

Thanks for that, still got the problem, tried uploading again, very slow and the same result.

Must be at my end, I'll get my lad to have a look at it this W.E.

I can think of a number of 4 letter words to describe my internet at the moment, but I'll stick with 3, "not very good".

                        Cheers geoff

What size are you trying to load, I reduce all photos to 640 x 480, this is quite adequate for web sites. Until I reduced the size of the pics I was trying to load I got nowhere.

+1 for Ian's 'reduce the size' advice.

I have a good 8Mbs down / 1.2Mbs up service and can confirm that big photos are still likely to cause trouble. The forum automatically shrinks any big photographs you send it. The process seems rather slow and erratic, and I suspect the conversion sometimes fails or times out on the server. Uploading is much more reliable when I set my camera to low resolution, or scale big pictures down myself with a Photo Editor before uploading them. Using a photo editor also solves the 'wrong orientation' problem people sometimes see.

                              Geoff,

The website reduces all uploaded photos tow 1024 pixels on the long side, but if you try an upload a file that is too large the connection will time out with the behaviour you are describing.

What is too large? are we talking mb

The file I am trying to load is 1.9mb

I loaded one twice that size last week

Just managed to upload the 1.9mb one, still very slow but it has uploaded.

My question still stands, what is too large?

Most of what I upload from the camera are 5mb or there abouts. Not had a problem and also often do 3 or 4 at a time.

Jason, which makes me think it's a problem with my internet. Last week I was loading 4/5 mb files in under 10 sec, no problem.

The two I have just uploaded into the jepson album I had to crop in size and shrink to under 1mb before they would upload and even then it was really slow, up to a minute.

                                        Hi Robert.

Down load FSResizer; I use it, it's a free resizing programme, simple enough to use, it allows you to convert a Mb pic size to Kb size, just follow instructions, it's self explanatory really, create an album then upload your pics to album then you can select which pic you want to show using the camera icon at top of this box then upload… voila!

                                        George.

Geoff does sound like a problem your end if you are still finding it takes a long time to upload smaller files so can't see any point in resizing them. Sometimes just turning your router off and on can do the trick.

Although the software resizes the pics to fit within the forum layout it is often useful to have them at a larger size so people can click on the image in the forum and have it come up full size, you often see me type this when I know detail can't easily be seen on the forum size image.

It's a timeout, not a size thing, so the biggest image you can upload depends on your connection speed.

If you have a big file and fast connection, it will upload.

If you have a medium size file and slow connection, it will time out.

I have a relatively slow upload connection here, so I don't upload more than three images at a time or I get a time out.

As all big images will be downsampled, you may as well crop them yourself.

If your "broadband" is what we call adsl on this side of the pond, 9 miles is an awful long way to go back to the box and it sure won't help your speed or latency.

Even with crap broadband, you should notice a difference. 2 meg broadband is slow, but nearly 100 times faster than 27K dialup.
