Just wondering if anyone has one of these brushless motored lathes and their thoughts on it. Just can’t seem to find any reviews or feedback on it anywhere

Yes I to have been looking at the Toolc 1014 brushless lathe for some time & would also like to here some feedback, I know their are various makes Warco etc etc that offer basically the same machine as this. All be it the Warco 180 that is only 300mm between centres but also with a less desirable brushed motor. The 400mm between centres on the toolco 1014 is also more desirable for me + the brushless motor. I also looked at the various make lathes going up a bit in size like the WM240 & WM250 lathes but not to sure whether either of these larger much heavier lathes are a bit overkill in size & weight.

Has anyone bought one of these and if so, do you have any comments that you would like to share?

Is that in actual size for your needs, or built with thicker castings?

You can generally make smaller things on a larger machine, but run into trouble trying to make items which are too big!

If you mean more robustly built, then usually these budget priced machines are made with little spare rigidity – built down to a price rather than up to a quality.

With variable frequency drives now costing so little, 3 phase induction motors should soon be replacing these DC drives – which seem to either need new control boards and/or motors far too often.

The offering from Toolco is not fitted with the 'standard' dc motor. It has a 750watt Brushless DC motor, which I suspect is similar to the motors fitted to the Sieg brand of machines…If they are the same or similar then reliability should be better improved over the lesser dc motor with its accompanying controller.

Looking at their website, Toolco advertise their machines, even the biggest, as having a 'Brushless DC motor'…Makes me think is this correct?

There are only 2 lathes in Toolco machines that have brushless motors up to now, one is the 1014 the other is the 1130. All of there milling machines with the exception of there turret have brushless motors.
