This has to be worth a few moments in The Tea Room … particularly when ME/MEW/ME&W appears to have struggled to find its own ‘brand identity’

I will leave you to do your own web-searching , to appreciate the meteoric rise of a company selling carbonated water in cans … but you could start here:

      .

      .

The punch-line for my post though is that I bought some at Home Bargains at the ludicrous price of £0.99 for a box of twelve cans. [and it is labelled as being “from the Alps”]

      Philosophise as you will

If I want water I turn on the tap. If I’m going to be away from a tap I take a glass bottle (reused obviously) full of water with me. As I don’t have a water meter, it’s effectively free, so why buy it.

              You don’t pay water bills….?

Those who have used the M1, I think it is, near Doncaster, will have noticed the mural on the Severn-Trent Water Company treatment works.

It shows how one litre bottle of tap-water = umpteen bottles of bottled water, by price. I don’t know how many umpteen as it’s not wise to try counting them when driving past at 60+mph, but it looks around twenty.

Oh well … Not the discussion I was anticipating

                But I did say

So I’ll leave you to it.

I must be missing something by not spotting the significance of the ringed image, but anyone gullible enough to be taken in by the utter childishness and idiocy of its own publicity video at full length, deserves all they get!

Of the second video, I had no idea which of two conflicting speeches I was supposed to listen to rather than hear, and soon tired of its sheer gimmickry, stupidity and laziness conveying nowt useful. I turned the sound down within the first minute and scrolled it off the screen. (How do we switch off such videos in mid-flow? It’s still running, off-screen.)

If I want to know why some American rubbish fails to sell in the UK I want the reason; not pointless, incoherent waffle by “media-studies” types.

Water from the Alps? Aye, I bet it is. Mine’s from Ridgeway Hill.

I buy soft drinks occasionally but not tinned water!

I simply cannot fathom why I should care in the first place.

I don’t have a meter, so it costs the same no matter how much I use. The marginal cost of filling water bottles is therefore zero

I have a water meter and pay 1.75 Euro per cubic metre which equates to 0.0006 euro to fill one of those cans.  If they can sell them at that price I might buy them rather that filling my reusable bottle!

Taste. The tap water in my particular locale doesn’t taste nice, and in the past has frequently been pale yellow. Even with an under sink water filter I’m still not encouraged to drink it. I like the taste of the sparkling spring water I buy so it encourages me to drink more.

An interesting dip into human psychology.  Engineers think they’re important, but maybe it’s marketing!  Humans are far from rational.

I found Liquid Death’s adverts amusing rather than persuasive, and the reasons say much about me and UK society.   Like Duncan I’m immune to the charms of brand-name bottled water, no matter how expensive!  My children buy it though, and a neighbour believes tap-water makes him ill, hmmm…

                            Thanks Michael!
