Teflon Veton Rings

I am nearly finished making the Potty mill engine but the drawing calls for Teflon or Veton ring for the piston and two other for making a seal. I have made several Beam engines running on air with out rings just a small grove in the piston for oil and have had them running on very low pressure. I don't intend to run the mill engine on steam but would like to know where I can get these rings.Ive looked on the internet but cant find what I need,

Teflon rings are mostly home made from teflon rod as far as I know. Viton (not Veton) rings are O rings, you should be get them from good engineering supply firms. If you are not running steam at high temperatures, ordinary nitrile O rings would be fine.

As Stew uses metric sizes you will have to get metric rings to suit, I have used these people a few times who have a good range of the Vitron ones.

You can also fill the ring groove with Graphite or PTFE inpregnated yarn which is less critical on the correct groove size. This can also be used as gland packing.

If you are just running for display then you should be able to get away with no rings if fit and finish is reasonable, this will also have less sticktion so better for slow running.

Another for Sealforce, 8/10 next day delivery, quality seals and measure whats sold, many dont. Local hydraulics may want a minimum charge and order.

Generally Viton starts at 75 shore against Nitrile 70 shore and lasts hell of a lot longer.

Viton® temperature rating

Depending on the grade the working temperature range is considered to be -26°C to +205°/230°C (-15°F to +400°/440°F). But for short working periods it will take even higher temperatures.
