I have tracked down one each of these. In terms of price, condition, proximity they are comparable. The Type D comes with fonts, circular font table, chuck mount, and a Javelin. The CX with “accessories” (unconfirmed)
Is there any reason to prefer one to the other?
Intended use is engraving (brass and steel; dials/faces and decoration in the main), clock scale horology (crossing out mainly), cutting em/debossing/branding stamps for use on paper/leather/wood/hot steel in a fly press. I might get into some reduction pattern making, and even further on I might try my hand at optical graticules – but those are not really considerations at the moment.
I already have a GHA mill, 9″ rotary table, dividing head, D-bit grinder, and 3D printer – so accessories and fonts are less of a factor in pushing me one way or the other
