V8Eng, your comment about a transistor radio being perhaps (a household type) present reminded me of a few years ago, with some trepidation I bought my wife an IPad for Xmas, I wasn't sure how it would go, she was not computer literate, but I couldn't have bought anything better, she loved it. Last year I had to buy the latest version to upgrade, the only downside is online purchasing has become too easily accessible!!!!

Just a quick update.

An 'executive decision' was made and, since that which was wanted can't be had, I've got a Roberts Stream 107 – a box of digital finaigling which seems to do most everything except make the tea and provide LW reception. Had a play ( just to make sure it works!) and quite impressed, not least by the display which is legible even to me. One big plus is that it uses rechargeable batteries, given the DAB's enormous appetite for batteries. It also has WiFi connectivity so SWMBO may be able to tune in to 'Strine' LOCAL radio commentary on the imminent demise of the barbecued bails!!
