Further confirmation of the precision to which the Great Western worked.
When K J Cook left Swindon and went to Doncaster, he solved the problem of the inside Big End on the V2s, by converting to the Swindon design, and introducing optical alignment for vastly improved performance.
Probably few have ever seen a workshop powered by lineshafting!

My first job was in such a shop, down the righthand side there were 3 lathes, a mill and a vertical slotter all driven off a line shaft
