SRDCN Profile tool

I have a SECO SRDCN 16×16 profiling tool – two questions:

This tool takes an 8mm button tip. Unfortunately through fair wear and tear the key to release the tip has worn the socket screw to the point where I cannot free the tip. Any suggestions would be most welcome as these are expensive tools.

In the case that the tip cannot be released can anyone suggest a supplier so I can purchase a new one.

There is a spares catalogue here which lists your toolholder and gives the order number for a replacement screw. The UK agent is

You might be able to bring the head off the screw with a Dremel, or maybe unscrew it with a left hand drill bit, or even hammer a bit of copper or brass rod into the screw head and use that to unscrew it.

Try some folded tinfoil over the socket and hammer the key in, might give you enough grip. Or take the next size up key and hammer that in.

The inserts will be quite brittle, so if you are struggling to remove the screw, you could shatter the insert with a hammer etc as a last resort. That should leave the screw accessible and unloaded (ie loose), I'd imagine.

A lot of these screws have another hexagon on the underside. Failing that I have drilled many of these out over the years. Edit most times easier to drill from the underside to ensure on centre of screw.

Thanks for the replies everyone – I think I'll try SECO ltd. first and use a Birmingham screwdriver as a last resort.

Another possibility – carefully grind a few thou off the tip of the key to remove the rounded edges and expose sharp corners.

Sometimes it works.
