The part labelled 02/010 is the main spindle.

Question is why do you need to remove it are the bearings shot?

Reading Lee's previous posts, I suspect he wants to take the spindle nose off in a chuck related fashion, not take the spindle out.

My advice (having a Boxford 280) is don't do either if you don't have to!

And to clarify, I believe that whilst there is only one part number listed by Boxford for the spindle and nose complete (02/010, as Michael shows), the nose screws off the spindle.

The parts diagram linked only tells part of the story, as accompanied by this on Boxford's website is a listing of the parts and their description too.

Hi

Once again thanks for all the advice and links. I really don't want to get as far as Nick did and replace bearing etc this is just to clean it up and remove previous owners swarf neglect etc

I have cleaned the visible swarf just wanted to do a good job and essentially learn as I go cos I'm not one to not have a go.

I will take your advice and leave alone on this one but would be good to know for future ref.

I did try last night to unscrew but it was so tight and I couldn't get the spindle in a locked position tight enough for the pressure needed to unscrew it

You don't.!

It's part of the main spindle and made as one piece. Unless there is a very, very good reason leave it alone.
