Small cable connecting

I have in my garage, I think I bought them from Farnell, some clear shrink wrap tubes which have in the centre a piece of low temperature solder, you put the two cable ends so that the bare are in the area of the solder and then heat with a hot air gun causing the tube to shrink and solder to melt around the wires.

Self fusing tape can come in handy for an item you cannot heat shrink. In a few days it blends together and cannot be unwound.
