      Dear friends

      i'm an italian owner of the old small lathe Simat 101 and the chuck of this tool has not more its key.

      Given that I don't know the brand of the chuck it will be better to post a picture but I am not able to post here the image.

      I can say that this chuck has a crank to opening and closing the three jaws, the diameter of the crank is 73mm and thatt one of the jaws plate is 63mm. the hole for the key is 4mm

      So please help me to find this key.

      Thank you and gretings from Italy.

      Franco

            Hello Andrea, I also have a Simat 101 with what I think is the same chuck.

            I've had it for well over 30 years, but from what I remember, only the 4 the chuck came with it, but the 3 jaw chucks were sold at the time, by another vendor, as being suitable for an Emcomat or a Cowells lathe.

            See the photo in This Link which took quite a while to load for me. The ones with the key were the de-luxe version, the simpler ones using 2 tommy bars.

            I've never seen a spare key for sale myself, but I do have one which I'll happily measure for you if it's of any assistance. It's not like a drill chuck key, which is cut as a bevel gear, more like a straight cut gear on a handle.

            See also This Link for more Simat information.

              Not yet having learned to drive a CAD package, you'll have to make do with photos, and yes it looks like I should have cleaned it first. blush

              The signwriting says;

              3001

              TML, or possibly TMI followed by (UC)

              The core diameter of the base of the teeth tapers from about 10.75mm to 9.75mm

              I'm guessing I bought it from an advert in Model Engineer in the early '80s and had the choice of a 14x1mm or 14×1.5mm backplate, so it looks like they were marketing it for a variety of lathes.
              I think early Cowells were 1.5mm pitch, later changing to 1mm.

              For those who've never seen one before, the jaws are reversible, even though they operate on a scroll like a conventional 3 jaw self centring chuck.

              N.B. this makes the teeth on the rear quite weak, so great care must be taken when tightening the chuck, particularly at large diameters when not all the teeth are engaged in the scroll.
              Don't ask me how I know. frown

                Mechanically it appears identical to a lever scroll.

                If you can find a way of locking the body a bar with a reduced end to fit the key hole should allow you to use the chuck, even if it isn't as elegant.

                  Hi,

                  I think you'll find it is made by Toyo. I've had one on my Cowells for about 35 years. Had to replace it as one of the teeth broke on one jaw a few years ago. You might find the Proxxon one is similar.

                  Regards Tom

                    Seems to be the one fitted to the Proxxon PD230, but I've just asked via on-line chat, and apparently it's "not something we sell "

                    Shown in 2nd photo on here as a Toyo ML210

                    From Rejon tools web site;

                    Manix Background

                    The Manix company was formed in 1996 having taken over production from SAKAI Special Camera Company in Japan who also traded as Toyo. Their factory is situated in Korea where they produce very high quality Lathes, Milling Machines and other specialised machinery.

                    Rejon also seem to show a similar chuck under Unimat 4 accessories and have a price list in pdf format which seems to show the chuck, but doesn't list the key separately.

                    I've dropped rejon a message via their web contact box.

                      Had a reply from Rejon, so looks like no keys there;
