Doe's anyone know if it's possible to sharpen rotary shaver cutters ie philips

or remington I thought possibly lapping on diamond lap I have 600 grit and 1200 grit

Seen a few worn almost away..out of curiosity looked at edge under glass..still sharp..even with most of flat worn away..so lapping on flat. of the spider bit would be harmless but keep flat. The other half of the shears is probably not serviceable. ..

I solved that problem about 40 years ago – I grew a beard!

At , say 5min shaving time per day, I reckon that it has saved me around 50days of my life standing in front of a mirror. ( If only I had used that time profitably!)

The Phillips type are designed to stay sharp by rubbing on the underside of the foils ( and self sharoening according to the Phillips rep) so always take them off one at a time, clean and replace in the original foil. They last a damn sight longer that way !

Do the cutters and heads only need to be kept as matched pairs after they are put into use?

Until they are used, aren't the cutters all the same and the heads all the same?

yes until you "wear them in" the unopened ones are fine. Once you start to sue keep them paired up. It's still ofter cheaper to buy a new razor on offer than get the spares ( currently about £36 for a set of 3 !)
