Hi all – I have just become aware of the Shahe type DRO system for the Myford (and others) lathe and being advertised as "needs no installation" clamping directly to the lathe bed. Does anyone have any experience in using one of these devices?

Are these the same as / similar to the 'remote head linear scales' that are / were avavailable from ARC, Warco, et al..

..it's just that many people who have them might not know them as 'Shahe' units..

An example of the DRO system in mind is currently listed on the well known auction site.

I think what you're looking at there is 3D printed parts with magnets glued in them, I'm sure I've seen these before on ebay and it's something made by an individual who sells them on ebay rather than an official product, if you're into 3D printing you might be able to find the designs online somewhere?

I don't think SHAHE has anything to do with it other than that's the brand of scale used by the seller.

Here is my version of this idea:

                        dscn2033.jpg

The read head is screwed to a block fixed to any convenient point on the front way with magnets. I would have liked to fix the beam magnetically, too, but eventually decided on a screw fixing via a replacement for one of the saddle screws (the brass cheese head has been replaced with a knurled thumb screw).

I presume it is just a generic clamp and the seller lists it several times just changing the make of lathe in the description but dose not bother to change the images as that is not a Myford it is shown fitted to. Also be careful which you buy as not all Myfords are equal and it looks like you need another design of clamp for the ML10
