Amazon at it's best! Ordered two items both arrived today packed separately. One the packing fitted the item exactly, the other – well – my pet hate slightly overpacked,. I mean just how much does it take to wrap up a potato peeler?

Well according to Amazon it needs a cardboard box 400 x 300 x 100mm, about 3m of brown paper, A rigid cardboard A3 envelope and a plastic bag. I can cope with separate packages as the items probably came from different warehouses but what a waste for something so small, could just have travelled in the A3 envelope. <end moan>

Ah! You have recieved the "Box, packaging, despatch of items for sale, for the use of"

The box has been ticked, no initiative needed, or welcomed.

I know a lady who started at Amazon as a packer due to recent redundancy, she reckons they want her to pack 100 items per hour but she can only do 80 ish, maybe that explains the perceived lack of care smiley

              Great when spray-painting small items.

Tony Pratt 1 is dead right, I also know someone who worked at Amazon over the Christmas period, the target packing rate was so high that it was easier to chuck things into an oversize box to save time than to pack properly.

I once worked in the warehouse of a small publishing company. The books ordered through Amazon had to be packed with extreme care because if the buyer complained of any damage, Amazon were likely to terminate the publisher's contract. So I wouldn't be surprised if the packers take no chances; their job might be on the line if there's a return.

My favourite over-the-top packers are RS Components who will use something the size of a shoe box to send ten surface mount resistors (which are smaller than a grain of rice, and near-indestructible). They do free next day delivery though, and the boxes can be quite useful, so I'm not complaining

Amazon you gotta love them and hate them, I know the present rule are to leave the package on the door step but why not ring the bell ! For the second time this week Ive had my neighbour ring my bell not to tell me there's a package by the door but to make sure I'm OK because it's been there for a while.

The other annoying thing about RS is that they post you an invoice separately the day after you get your delivery. What an absolute stupid waste of money – either put the invoice in the parcel or make it available online and I'll print it out myself if I need to. I guess this comes from the old days where the parcel would be sent to the workshop and the invoice to the accounts department.

Amazon you gotta love them and hate them . . .

We need to just hate 'em. Amazon owner Jeff Bezos is the world's richest man, on the brink of being the world's first trillionaire. But his employees don't get time to go to the toilet and are expected to pack 100 items per hour as per above post. That's one package every 36 seconds. So Jeff can make his $149,000 A MINUTE profit.

Insane doesn't even begin to describe it. The sooner we all boycott Amazon and use one of the other numerous suppliers the sooner things might change.

                          Yes. Send them packing indeed.

American companies always treat workers badly

If a US company is about to take your company over the best policy is to quit the Friday before, before they get at your pension pot

The best company I ever worked for during my 50+ years of toil was the IBM Corporation when they had a manufacturing plant in the South of England. I worked there for 8 years until I left to pursue a completely different career in road transport.
