I have some cast light alloy plates with rust stains on them. Anyone know of anything to remove them?

The product used to clean alli bodies on trucks should do it – find a haulier and you may be able to buy a small quantity. Noel.

EvapoRust is good at removing rust stains from all sorts of surfaces.
If it’s a large piece with small areas of staining you can soak a sponge in it to keep the area wet.

Being alloy, (Aluminium rather than steel) the deposit will not be rust (Unless the casting contains ferrous material in some way)

A violent and rather dangerous way would be to paint the item with concentrated Nitric acid. This will remove the corrosion, and being a potent oxidising agent, leave a thin film of oxide on the surface, akin to anodising.

But be VERY careful, (PPE etc) and wash every thing, afterwards.

I found rust stains on my alloy wheels, it came from the disc brake behind.

I bought some stuff to remove it and it worked wonderfully.

The next time I tried it, same stain, same stuff, it did nothing.

Be warned, you may only get one shot at this 🙂

                    Another vote for Oxalic Acid.
