Talking about problems with suppliers, and I,ve had my share,I would like to recount one which worked out very well.
A year or two back I wanted to buy a rotary converter to run my planer and my spindle moulder [both with 4hp motors 3ph ] ,called Boost Converters for advice, not cheap from here on a mobile phone !. Got a message "No,one here to take your call, please call later",so I did, several times over the next few days. Still the same response,so I went shopping elsewhere.Got in touch with Transwave, explained what I wanted and when I explained where I was located, was given the name and phone number of their agent in Lurgan, near Belfast. Transwave explained that it might be cheaper to collect rather than deliver. They said they would contact the agent to call me and advise.
Got a call next day from a man named Tim Collins, agent for TRANSWAVE who talked me through the whole thing and advised on the most suitable model for my needs. Having worked out the cost of driving from my place to Lurgan against the cost of delivery,it was not worth the effort,so I did the deal and had it delivered. Sent him a bank draft, and a few days later,it arrived. Tim phoned after two days to check if it had arrived safe, and told me to check it over and if anything was wrong,to get back to him at once. There was nothing wrong and it worked straight out of the box,or off the pallet ! Still working away,no problem.
So,the message is,there are some good suppliers out there still, you just need to look around. Needless to say,Boost never returned my calls.
Friend of mind worked in car sales all his life. Always maintained that the first thing to do when you saw a new customer enter the sales room, was to make eye contact, even if you were busy with another customer. It paid off in his case, since he had the highest rate of sales in the dealership. He managed to sell to men, their sons, even their grandsons, over the years. When he died, many of those at the funeral were ex customers. He always said,"Anyone can sell once, not many can sell twice"
Could be a lesson here for a few suppliers I could think of.
