Sometime soon I will have to take Pansy to pieces, do final fettling and paint it. How do I do it? I have some car painting experience and have used the small 'toy' airbrushes with limited success. How do I degrease, what primer do I use, different primers for steel / copper / brass, brush or spray (I have a compressor), what type of sprayer, how many coats will it need, are there different types of paint (like cars) – it will be GWR colours, how much disassembly should I do, best makes of paint, how much paint (and thinners) ????

      All help appreciated, Phil

Try Chris Vine's "How Not To Paint A Locomotive".

It's seriously good, but his route is not a primrose path, it's a long tough trek!

Phoenix have a book about painting models, as they supply specialist paints it might be worth a look.
