      Hi all,

I am in need of some help with an old Pacera (meddings) pillar drill I have in my garage/workshop.

The quill leaks and I have tried to find a seal for this but I've not had any luck. Wondering if anyone knows where I can get one as apparently meddings don't sell them anymore.

      Thanks

      Damian

If you can measure the dimensions of the seal housing, you ought to be able to get something to fit from a seal or bearing stockist. Most seals aren't unique to a particular machine.

Just managed to sort out a pic so everyone can see what I'm talking about. As far as I know it's a Pacera MB4

Thanks David. I'll have to strip it down to measure it, I just wondered if anyone had done a refurb on one and could advise before I go down that route

                Damian,

If you look at the Quill Assembly part of this page from my Meddings opins/manual you will see the bottom seal part number 80.

This has, in the original, a lip on the outside of the quill.

Instructions are " Lower Quill Seal" : item no 80 is replaced simply by prising the seal housing out of the quill with the aid of two screwdrivers and inserting new assembly….."

If the seal has been replaced with a non-Meddings one then more digging required as there won't be the outside lip.

Edit: the illustration is an MB4

Brilliant Robbo I shall take a look at that. I think I had the diagram somewhere but no instructions as to how to remove it

After a bit of further investigation it looks like the root of the problem is actually the gearbox oil seal.

Need to strip the gearbox out and source a new one.
