In my search for MT4 tooling for my mill , i bought this on ebay ,couldnt believe the price i got it for !

I have a Clarkson type c already ,but how do they generally compare in quality ?

This chuck with 4 metric and 3 imperial collets looks to be totally unused, not even a spanner mark/scratch on the blacking ,jut the odd rust spot everything gets in storage. Cost me £17 including postage.

It got me thinking how much did these cost when new.?

Actually the readily available Pozilock collets fit.

On ebay (which is expensive now for tooling and machinery)you would normally pay about £50 to £70 for that chuck, and £80 would not be out of the way. I would have thought a new one with the collets would be about £175, so you got a sterling copper bottomed bargain there!

is a lot cheaper than the bay, remember that nearly all the auction sites are fleabay owned now.

I paid £25 for mine with four imperial collets from a trader in 2014.

They are becoming less desirable with the ubiquity of ER collets.

I suspect part of the reason it was cheap was because it is MT4, which doesn't have anything like the attraction of MT2/3, as they are much more geared to the home workshop.

There is similar pricing with secondhand Camlock D1 chucks, faceplates and backplates.

D1-3 and D1-4 stuff is relatively expensive secondhand because it is Harrison M300/Colchester/Boxford/Warco size, once you get above D1-6 it is in commercial territory, and gets proportionately cheaper.
