        Hi all,

This is part of an auction lot of inspection instruments and tooling from last week. I know that Carl Mahr make precision micrometers etc but have no idea what this might be? Is it some sort of Go/No Go gauge perhaps? If so, probably of no use to me apart from the steel!

The two parts seem to be fixed together in the frame?

        Any info much apprediated.

        Regards, Martin

          Somebody else has one anyway

(seller has quite a few for sale. The numbers appear to be half their length).

Why not try e-mailing the Mahr UK office in Milton Keynes and ask them what it is? [email protected]

Hi Martin they look like micromiter setting pieces.

Hi Martin they look like micromiter setting pieces.

Used for very small woodworking joints then?

The pieces differ in length by 120mm. I would be interested to see a micrometer that has this range of motion as the usual ones operate over 25mm or 1".

The head off one would be good for a lathe carriage stop or a milling machine length or depth stop.

Used in a setup like this ?

You can see why coordinate measuring machines have become the go to tool for this sort of thing.

Hi Martin, may I ask who was running this auction ? I keep a list of auction sites for stuff like this but I appeared to have missed this on ! I hate the thought of 'gems' going to a bad homes where they wont be appreciated

                        Gerry,

Perhaps you might look at this auction:

                        https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cased-CARL-MAHR-Pin-Gauge-Inspection-Instrument-400-280mm-140-200/233681675511

Pay particular attention to the position, colour and design of the rule in the picture and the drainpipe on LHS. You may have seen them before…

Hi DC31k, The auction was mine! Drainpipe? Could you mean the outdoor brolly in the cntre of the table?

The rule is pretty distinctive in all our listings!

                          Cheers, Martin
