Myford Super 7 Motor Pulley

Hi gents, I damage my motor pulley for my mumford super 7. I did not realise that the set screw loosen overtime with vibrations until the motor spindle "chewed" the aluminum motor pulley's bore. its still usable but I think it won't last long enough. I tried Myford but its not currently available according to their website. Ebay can be very expensive especially if someone bids a ridiculous price for it. Is there any store that offers a motor pulley with the similar specs? Appreciate the help guys.

I's a bit awkward, you need a lathe so that you can bore the pulley to take a bush, this bush would be well made in steel, this should be fitted with high strength, shaft lock, then drilled and tapped for the grub screw.

It can be replaced using a standard pulley from engineering supply shop etc. If you cant get the small original Z-profile pulley, a more common A-section pulley can be used, with an A-section belt. It is a little bit wider than the original but will work ok on the original countershaft pulley. It just rides a bit high, but still grips ok. Our ML7 has run like that for years.

The OP says the pulley is still usable for a while, so he should use that time to make another for himself. Not a difficult "project".

Much appreciated gents, a very good member offered his solutions and hopefully I will have a replacement soon. I appreciate the help and knowledge that I get in the forum and this community.

Hopper, Thanks. I have no idea with regards to pulley sections. Does the Super 7 have a Z-profile pulley? My other solution is to get a generic Z-profile 3 step pulley then machine it into 2 pulley but a very good member message me and is willing to help me. Can you explain further the pulley section? Thanks!

Roy, the key was intact, it so happened that the set screw loosened and the key came totally loose and dropped on the belt guard cover. At this point i noticed something is wrong and since my belt is still tight the lathe keeps working until it came so loose. This is when I checked but its to late, My mistake and lessoned learned. I always do a pre check before starting up and this includes oil checks and belt checks etc. but things do happen. If only I knew.

Kwil, its still functioning but like a badly wounded soldier. I'm now just careful not to strain it to much. I have mentioned trying to convert a 3 step pulley to 2 step pulley to make things work but likely a very kind member here offered help which I cannot refuse. Thanks everyone!

It should be easy enough to get a pulley from a good supply store,they are a standard item,then just bore it out,since the lathe is still working. For a lathe that size,a good grub screw should be more than enough,never mind a key.

The pulley on the motor of my saw bench has only a grub screw keeping it in place and has never worked loose in the last 50 years.

The ebay price for the Myford motor pulley is at silly money because they have no stock, when they get some the price will drop to a saner amount.

BTW these pullies are cast iron not alloy.

The early pulleys were aluminium alloy, current ones are cast iron. Not sure where they changed.

If you are not desperate, keep looking. I ran one for years with a piece missing out of the side of the pulley, alloy. Bought a replacement that is iron, but kept the old in the case I ever purchase a 3 phase motor which would be metric and require the pulley to be bored.

Thanks. I guess I could just purchase a single belt Z pulley. I'm not sure what other dimensions they use to specify a pulley, other than bore, keyed and outer dimension.. Is there anything else to it?
