Myford 3 phase to single

I'm looking at a Myford 254 Plus that requires a 3 phase supply and I don't have one sadly. I believe it is currently fitted with a 2hp – 3 phase motor.

What would the panel suggest I do, inverter or new motor ?

Anyone got an idea of cost

Inverter, without a doubt.

From what I can see motor cost ~= inverter costs. If its a nice motor, get the inverter and all the advantages it brings rather than 'downgrade' to single phase.

Another option might be to run the 3 phase motor using a couple of capacitors, one to start one to run should give you about 60-80% of its full power.

Or if youre feeling really adventurous you could follow what I and many others have done and build a Phase convertor either Static or Rotary.

There are some good books in the Workshop Practice series on the subject.
