It has been a long hard struggle to get here but so well worth it.

I would like to thank all the members on here with all the help and advice as could not have done this without your help.

Especial thanks to Julian Atkins you have been amazing thank you.

Pulled my back out trying to block wheels on end of Loco so I can do the first test hope to steam very soon.

          Thanks again Guys

                  hi Ron,

yes very well done! i expect a few more teething problems but all hopefully easily overcome. Stan's pic's are of course excellent. Ron's engine has been a labour of love although expensive and problematic and is more 'utility'.

we could of course have a race in due course with Stan and Ron's locos! perhaps get Neil to join in and take pics and have a drive! exciting article for ME rather than MEW!

                  cheers,

                  julian

                                  Hi Ron

Been making them for 40 odd years a lot of mishaps on the way, they say for every one made there is one in the scrap box under the bench, I am no different. I am building a 5" 9F at the moment and Julian can tell you about my problems, please keep it up it does get easier (practice makes better) the main thing is it works and you have enjoyed making it , very well done What Next.

                                  Stan

Hi Stan yes I wish I had started 40 years ago.

Well put fire in it today but top dome was leaking so now cooling down going to tap larger bolts.

As for my next project I have already started building a super simplex I have done the frames beams axle boxes.

I started before I got the bottom half of Black 5 from my uncle who passed away.

I have most of the bits to make the boiler so once Black 5 up and running will get back onto that.

                                    All the best

                                    Ron

                                      Ron,

                                      Nice one.

Do, however, please please be very very careful moving it around as it could all come crashing down!

The loco sits well beyond the casters, tipping point, thus making it potentially unstable if care not taken.

I have found that out to my cost, and would suggest that you extend the base of the scissor stand to get the casters outside of the loco's O/A dimensions.

A similar principle applies to passenger trolleys at club tracks, except in this case the seat of the trolleys need to bear on the axles, but within the wheel track, when pivoting which happens as passengers get on and off, fully covered in ME many many many years ago.

Hi Geoff mine is stable I extended the feet at base so I can wheel up my drive easy.

My friend bought one with wheels already on no good at all

                                          Ron,

I'm somewhat slow on the uptake of late, but grey matter just decided to behave.

The downward pressure onto the extensions you added is exactly as I described with reference to passenger carrying trolleys.

Do be careful of sideways tipping though, something that caught me out.

iMovie '11 time today whilst trying to listen to TMS, but Internet ******* useless, as it's been the whole year so far with connection dropping off all the time angry

Geoff – Wonder how much I will achieve today?.

A long time my uncle made the frames wheels cylinders over 55 years ago and gave up.

I started last year and put hundreds of hours into it.

Start to finish runs into years I am told.

I have started on a Super Simplex I am hoping to get finished by next year as its only a Tank Engine 060 in 5"

Given up on TMS and the Internet.

Just done test on my internet speed using iOS Apps:

                                                    1) SpeedSmart

                                                    Download: 020 Mbps

                                                    Upload: 0.80 Mbps

                                                    Ping: 41 ms

                                                    2) Speedtest

                                                    Download: 0.18 Mbps

                                                    Upload: 0.68 Mbps

                                                    Ping: 32 ms

Tested with the MacPro and its just as bad, so not iOS9.

                                                    Talk about utterly useless.

Only been like this since Xmas, and family the other side of town also experiencing diabolically slow internet as well.

BT/Openreach really need to get their act together otherwise the UK will slip even further than its present position of 20th in the internet speed rating, from having one of the fastest connections.
